The fact is, the less salt we eat, the healthier we are - no ifs, no buts!

If you pile on the salt you’re more likely to have higher blood pressure. Lots of salt will put a strain on your blood vessels, put pressure on your heart and lead to ugly outcomes like a stroke or a heart attack.

Aussies love sun, surf and salt!

The average Australian adult has about 9 grams of salt each day. It’s much more than we need to be healthy. In fact 9 times more. Yes that’s right, we only need a gram of salt a day.

Salt and kids don’t always mix well

Too much salt can affect children's blood pressure and lead to health problems later in life. Salt can be like an addiction, so keep the kids away from it today and they won’t be begging for it tomorrow.

After all, now’s the time for them to develop these healthy habits early in life.

You may not realise it but there’s loads of salt in bread, cereals and processed foods. It’s the latter that’s the worry. They say that 75% of the salt we eat actually comes from these processed foods so it’s a good idea to check the label before you eat anything.

Where is it on the label?
Salt is listed in the nutritional information panel as sodium.

To check if a food is low in salt, have a look at the 100 gram column.

Food considered low in salt has 120mg or less sodium per 100g*.

Food Standards Australia New Zealand

The Australian Division of Action on Salt & Health (AWASH) recommends avoiding all foods that have in excess of 600mg of sodium / 100g.

At Freedom Foods we try to keep all our products low in salt so none of them have more than 600mg of sodium per 100g.
